SUMMARY:The Future of Independent Commissions in San Francisco
DESCRIPTION:San Francisco’s system of independent commissions is one of the strongest tools residents have to hold their government accountable — and it’s now at a critical turning point. Commissions are supposed to help San Franciscans have their needs heard about how the city provides and funds programs for children and youth\, early childhood services\, public parks\, public safety\, transit\, and crucial neighborhood services across the city. \nThe Commission Streamlining Task Force\, created by the voter-approved Proposition E (November 2024)\, is proposing changes that could dramatically weaken public oversight and concentrate more power in the Mayor’s office. This will have real consequences for the power of regular San Franciscans to have their concerns heard and needs met by their city government. \nCome to this urgent community forum to understand what’s at stake. You’ll learn what commissions actually do\, how these recommendations could reshape who makes decisions for San Francisco\, and why this moment matters for everyone who cares about transparency\, democracy\, and the future of our city. \n(You may attend this event in person or online. The event recording will be shared with all event registrants.) \nCo-hosts: \nLeague of Women Voters of San Francisco is a nonpartisan political nonprofit that empowers voters and defends democracy. People of all genders welcome. Learn more at lwvsf.org. \nthe roots of change agency uses storytelling to build connection and belonging that leads to lasting social change. Learn more at knurdology.com. \nSan Francisco Women’s Political Committee champions policies and candidates committed to advancing intersectional feminism\, racial justice\, gender equity\, and equitable systems and structures through participation in the political process. Learn more at sfwpc.org. \nThe Women’s Building is a women-led community space that advocates self-determination\, gender equality and social justice. Learn more at womensbuilding.org \nReal Reform SF is a political campaign committee that supported San Francisco Proposition Proposition E (November 2024).

SUMMARY:NOIZE MC. NORTH AMERICAN TOUR 2026
DESCRIPTION:Noize MC is one of the most outspoken anti-Putin\, anti-war Russian artists in exile — a musician whose work sits at the crossroads of rap\, rock\, and sharp political commentary. Over the past 15 years\, he has become a defining voice for a generation\, known for his fearless freestyling\, genre-blending sound\, and uncompromising civic stance. He was named to Forbes’ “50 Stars” list in 2010 and 2019 and received MTV Europe Music Awards nominations for Best Russian Artist in both years. \nIn 2019\, Noize MC released “Just Like Everyone Else\,” a scathing critique of contemporary Russia that went viral\, amassing more than 36 million views on his official YouTube channel. His 2025 album Not All There marked a major turning point in his career and is widely regarded as one of the most important releases in recent Russian-language music. \nAfter publicly condemning Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 — following more than a decade of protest activity against Vladimir Putin’s regime — Noize MC left Russia and settled in Lithuania. Together with fellow artist Monetochka\, he launched Voices of Peace\, a series of benefit concerts that raised over €400\,000 for Ukrainian civilians. In December 2024\, Noize MC and Monetochka were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

SUMMARY:Local Author Read Aloud: Bubbles
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, March 29th\, from 11am-12pm\, for a fun children’s read-aloud of Bubbles by local author André Morrow! All are welcome to join us in reading and celebrating this musical tale. We’ll be featuring live children’s songs\, snacks\, and an engaging storytime. “Bubbles” is a whimsical story that teaches young readers to appreciate all the wonderful little things in life\, like playing with pets and family\, blowing bubbles\, and enjoying the outdoors. The story highlights gratitude in a playful and educational way! \nRead more about the precious story of how Bubbles came to be\, quoted directly from the author: \n ” Bubbles is a song\, video and children’s book. The “Bubbles” project began during a visit with some of my grandkids\, Hadley Dickson\, James Dickson\, and Danica Dickson. Most of our visits include music time and taking a whack at writing songs together. On this particular visit\, we’d just finished an enthusiastic adventure making bubbles in the backyard. Afterward\, during music time\, I asked them what they wanted to write about and one of them yelled out “Bubbles”. And the song was born. Months later\, my music partner David J. Michalak and I began producing the song to add to our collection of music. My cousins\, Sophia Bass and Catherine Bass\, sisters\, both wonderful artists\, agreed to assist us with the project. Catherine is an amazing painter and Sophia’s voice is incomparable. They are the daughters of my cousin Reggie Bass who was my great friend and music partner of my youth. So together we all created the Bubbles book\, song\, and video. We hope you enjoy it! The song can be found on all major music platforms using the artist’s name Morrow Michalak. The video can be found at morrowmichalak.com/bubbles. Thanks to Barb Schacht\, who heard an early rendition of the song and suggested it would make a terrific kid’s book. ” \nWishing you Butterflies\, Sunshine\, and Rainbows\, André (Papi) Morrow

SUMMARY:Sydney Paige Foundation Open House
DESCRIPTION:Come get a behind-the-scenes look at where helping 330\,000 students (and counting) began! Sydney Paige Foundation\, a 501 (c)(3)\, was set up to help get high-quality backpacks and school supplies into the hands of students who need them the most. We reject the notion that “something is better than nothing” and challenge our donors to the same! A backpack that lasts for 1 month is not worth the photo op if the student needs another a mere 30 days later. It is horrible for their confidence\, and even worse for our environment! Please visit us on Friday\, April 3rd\, between 4-7 pm in Walnut Creek and check out our volunteer\, donor\, and partnership opportunities. We can’t wait to see you there!

SUMMARY:Family Astronomy: Invisible Astronomy
DESCRIPTION:Chabot Space & Science Center’s Family Astronomy Series invites families with children ages 6–12 to explore the wonders of the universe together! Each evening program features an engaging presentation in Chabot’s Planetarium followed by hands-on activities and opportunities to make discoveries together. Each event includes complimentary hot cocoa and snacks. \nDelve beyond the visible and uncover the fascinating science of invisible astronomy! Families will explore the electromagnetic spectrum and discover how astronomers use radio waves\, infrared\, and ultraviolet light to reveal the hidden wonders of the cosmos. What do radio signals tell us about the Big Bang? How does infrared light let us glimpse ancient galaxies?\nThrough hands-on experiments and demonstrations\, participants will investigate how these invisible forms of light help us see the universe in entirely new ways. \nWarm up with hot cocoa and cookies before heading out to the Observatory for telescope viewing (weather permitting). End the evening by using the most powerful tools of all\, your own eyes\, to take in the visible light streaming to us from distant stars.
