Mischief Managed! Making Caramel Apple Slices with Mom

Halloween Caramel Apple Slices

These caramel apple slices are perfect for a party, and much easier to eat than a whole caramel apple. Plus, with slices, you’re able to customize the toppings! Try chocolate, crushed nuts, or coconut. It’s hard to go wrong with such a classic.

You will need:

  • 5 medium green and red apples, cored and cut into 1-inch slices
  • 1 lb. caramel
  • 2 tablespoons of cream
  • 2/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 3 teaspoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 2/3 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 2/3 cup white chocolate chips
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup coconut shavings
  • 1/2 cup peanuts or other nut of your choice, chopped
  • 15 pointed wooden skewers

  1. Stick a wooden skewer into each apple slice.
  2. Combine the caramel and cream in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high in 30-second increments, stirring in between each increment, until the caramel and cream are fully melted and combined.
  3. Melt the semisweet chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon of oil in a microwave-safe bowl for 15-second increments, stirring every 15 seconds until melted.
  4. Melt the chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon of oil in a microwave-safe bowl for 15-second increments, stirring every 15 seconds until melted.
  5. Melt the white chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon of oil in a microwave-safe bowl for 15-second increments, stirring every 15 seconds until melted.
  6. If you don’t want your apples to brown, brush them with lemon juice.
  7. Dip the slices into the melted caramel or chocolate, letting the excess drip off. Place on a waxed paper-lined baking sheet to set.
  8. Repeat until all the slices are coated in caramel or chocolate.
  9. Dust with coconut shavings or chopped nuts.
