Why Adult Toys Are Fun

0

A few months ago, I questioned why we don’t talk about orgasms. Having an orgasm is a physical pleasure we shouldn’t deny ourselves nor should we censure discussion on. Discussion is healthy for figuring out how to get what we each need. Naturally, physical pleasure is a very personal thing. What pleases one person may not please another. Which brings me to the topic of adult toys and why I think they are fun. If this topic makes you cringe, I totally get it. The idea of using adult toys used to make me cringe, too and feel a little dirty, like having a guilty pleasure. Why do I need adult toys for physical pleasure? Shouldn’t having a real-life partner be enough? Once I started using adult toys, I had a “eureka” feeling of clarity and the guilt was replaced with excitement. I have come to  develop a healthy appreciation for adult toys, and my top three reasons just might peak your interest, too.

Playing with adult toys IS NOT naughty

First, let me de-stigmatize the notion that playing with adults toys is naughty. On the contrary, I think it’s healthy. While it’s wonderful to have a lifetime partner to engage in physical pleasure, there is certainly no harm in playing with toys to enhance the physical experience, so long as it’s consensual. What aspect of using adult toys makes them naughty? Is it that we talk about them in hushed voices? Is it that we don’t confirm if we use them at all? While playing with adult toys might not be a topic I would have with my parents or my children, it’s certainly a discussion worth having with my spouse, mommy friends and non-mom friends.

Sex gets stale

We never say it out loud. We discuss it on the real DL. But it’s true, especially when you’ve been in a relationship with someone as long as I have. After you have flipped through all the Kama Sutra books and tried all the different positions, sometimes the sex is just not as exciting. Sometimes, you’re too tired (okay, more like all the time) from the daily routine. Sometimes you’re just not in the mood. Adult toys provide an easy way to spice up the action without some of the more time-consuming romantic activities, like a night away from your kids. Besides, who has time to get away these days?

There is an adult toy for everyone

Whatever your comfort level, there is an adult toy for everyone. Adult toys can be categorized into three types: role-playing toys, massage toys, and internal toys.

  • Role-playing toys include costumes, handcuffs, whips, etc. They are the most accessible toys, because they just require a little make-believe fun between consenting adults. If you have ever gone to one of those pop-up Halloween costume stores, they sell lots of role-playing costumes. Otherwise, any online adult store sells them, too.
  • The next type are massage toys. Massage toys include hand held massagers and massaging tools. These toys vibrate or have moving parts that touch the outside of the body. They are usually handheld and can be battery-operated, electric, or use no power at all. Massage toys are useful for external stimulation and touch.
  • The last type of adult toys are internal toys. Internal toys are those toys that can be inserted into the body for internal stimulation.

My favorite stores are our local Good Vibrations and LoveHoney, reputable for their wide-array of products and easy shopping experiences.

Like orgasms, I think it’s important to normalize the discussion about playing with adult toys. Physical pleasure is a personal thing, because everyone reacts differently to stimuli. Whether a person is alone or has a partner, playing with adult toys can make for a truly fun and pleasurable physical experience. How do you feel about adult toys?
