Oh, The Conceiveabilities!: A Mother’s Journey Answering the Call Of Surrogacy.
I had it in my heart to become a surrogate after a family friend mentioned her own surrogacy journey. I remember I was pregnant with my first baby and had never heard of surrogacy before that conversation. While I looked down at my pregnant belly, I was blown away by what my friend was explaining to me. At the same time, I was also curious about the process and how it all worked. I couldn’t believe how many couples need surrogates to fulfill their dreams of building a family. How much heartbreak many of these families faced. I couldn’t imagine the loss and the obstacles they’ve experienced.
I realized that women, like me, were NEEDED. Truly needed.
The process to become a surrogate involves six basic steps:
Research Surrogacy, Find Out If You Qualify, Match With Intended Parents, Begin Pregnancy, Carry and Deliver a Baby, Conclude Your Surrogacy Journey.
For the next 3-4 years, I researched and prayed and then researched some more.

What is Gestational Surrogacy?
Surrogacy is a modern and growing means of bringing new life into the world, where a woman carries a baby for another person or a couple. The Intended Parents, or IPs, undergo IVF, meaning fertilization outside of the body, to transfer their embryo into the surrogate’s uterus. A surrogate, or gestational carrier, is a woman who carries a baby for an individual or a couple that has no genetic relationship to her. When the baby is born, the intended parents are listed on the birth certificate as the legal parents and assume all responsibility for the child.
- 1 in 6 couples experiences infertility. Surrogacy has the highest success rate of infertility treatments at a 75% success rate for these couples desperate to build a family
- Over 17,000 births per year involve surrogacy
- As a SURROGATE you do NOT use your own egg in the surrogacy journey. The baby is not genetically related to you
- Compensation for first-time surrogates is up to $72,000
- The qualified age range to become a surrogate is 21-43 years old
- You can still be a surrogate if you’ve had your tubes tied, had a c-section, and/or are a single parent
- While surrogates are compensated, the main reason they apply is to bring joy and help a family in need
Little did I know, this experience would set a fire in my soul that could not be contained. I came up with a detailed plan that I diligently worked towards for about 2 years until FINALLY, I was ready to pull the trigger and become a SURROGATE myself!

Looking back on my journey, I never thought the agency you worked with during surrogacy made a difference. I am so thankful I chose to journey with ConceiveAbilities. It is one thing for an agency to explain what they can do for you, but to experience it first-hand in action is a completely different story.
When I remember the moment I held my own babies for the first time. The emotions felt that day.
The tears cried.
The bond that was formed when I held them in my arms.
THAT has been my purpose to pursue and continue through this surrogacy journey. I keep those two life-changing moments in the back of my mind and know that one day, my IPs will feel that EXACT same emotion and MORE when their child is born!
