5 Benefits to Having Twins

My twins just turned two. A few months ago, I ran into another mom who had three-year-old twin girls. As we chatted, she said, “Isn’t having twins just the best?!” While I didn’t really get it at that moment, I’m now starting to see the many upsides of having twins, once you get past the first two years of chaos.

It’s efficient (especially if you didn’t love being pregnant)

I was terrified of being pregnant and even more so when I found out I was having twins. Luckily, aside from the babies being born early, it was an uneventful pregnancy but I still didn’t love it. Luckily, I don’t have to do it again because I got two for the price of one!

Everyone is on the same schedule

We were, and still are, sticklers about our schedule. The babies always ate at the same time and napped at the same time. I can see how if you have kids at different ages the schedules can get really tricky.

We get through transitions at the same time

Similar to being on the same schedule, you can tackle transitions at the same time. When we moved from two naps to one we just all did it together. I’m not guaranteeing this will work with potty training, but I have my fingers crossed.

They have a built-in buddy

Whether it’s at school, a new activity, or just waking up from a nap, the twins always have their buddy. As they get older, I’m sure they’ll diverge a bit as they pursue different interests and attend different classes, but for now, it’s nice knowing they aren’t alone. They also always have entertainment. Most evenings involve games of chase, tickle fests (and fights) but having the built-in playmate has been fun.

No struggles over an older sibling getting something that a younger sibling can’t have

As the older sibling in my family, there was always a fight over who got what. When I got a cell phone at 13, my little sister got one too at only 11(!). But with twins, it’s just two of everything!

Don’t get me wrong, having TWO infants at once is insane, and I did not see the benefits back then. But as they get older, I can truly say that I love having twins.
