Friday Faves & Finds (2.16.18)

week in reviewHello, Friday! I look forward to every weekend, but especially long weekends like this one. My husband has off from work on Monday, so we have lots of fun plans with friends, including wine tasting in Paso Robles! What about you?

Whether you’re up to the usual this weekend or are doing something special, here’s a roundup of some of the stuff I’m loving right now from around the web. Share your favorite finds in the comments below!

Gong Hey Fat Choy! Today begins the Year of the Dog and there are Lunar New Year celebrations happening around the area. Check out our lists for the Mid-Peninsula and San Francisco.

This recipe for a one-pot cheesy pasta and chicken dish from the Slow Roasted Italian is a MUST MAKE. So easy, tasty, and really healthy (despite the “cheesy” in the title). If you’re watching your carbs, use 1/2 lb of pasta, instead of the full pound.

For renovation inspiration, check out how Ramshackle Glam converted her garage into extra living space.

You’ll be armed with good dinner party conversation after watching this fascinating video from PBS’s Origin of Everything series explaining why pink was deemed a “girl color” and blue was assigned to boys. (It used to be the opposite!)

I recently got an outlet plug with USB charging ports, and it has made all the difference.

On a serious note

The horrific mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida, leaves me and all of us here at Mid-Peninsula Moms Blog speechless, angry, worried, and sad. Our friends at Albuquerque Moms Blog shared this on the topic.

In case you missed it. . .

Monday, Wendi shared her very personal fertility story, and I guarantee you, it’s not what you’re expecting.

Tuesday, Christina, a primary care doctor, takes on flu season, debunking myths about the flu vaccine and arming us with other helpful info.

Wednesday, Meredith shared her oh-so-relatable musings on how her love and relationship with her husband has evolved over time.

Thursday, Laura, one of our regular contributors to San Francisco Moms Blog, guest posted to set the record straight on why that food allergy scene in the new Peter Rabbit movie is really messed up.

And then there’s all the good stuff our SF writers are sharing:

Filld, an app-based service that fills your car’s gas tank on the go; a charming handprint towel art project to do with your littles; more talk about relationships after kids in honor of Vday; tips on what to do with all that leftover breastmilk in the freezer (lucky you!), and an explanation of some common Chinese New Year traditions.

We’re all super busy, and it’s hard to stay on top of it all. Take a minute and subscribe to our weekly newsletters for Mid-Peninsula and San Francisco. You’ll get our original articles delivered straight to your inbox – only one email each, every Friday. Easy peasy.

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even thought. They must be felt with the heart. – Helen Keller
