AFTERSCHOOL JAZZ MASTERCLASS: FROM HAVANA TO THE WORLD!

Pianist Dayramir González

The Oakland Public Conservatory of Music and SFJAZZ are pleased to co-present
acclaimed Havana-born pianist Dayramir González in a special interactive session for
youth and adults celebrating the rich history and power of Afro-Cuban pianism.
A virtuosic pianist, composer, and arranger, González became the first Cuban national to
receive Berklee College of Music’s prestigious Presidential Scholarship. He followed this with
the 2013 Wayne Shorter Award for Outstanding Jazz Composer. In celebration of his newest
release, V.I.D.A., González shares his passion for his native homeland and the ethos of his
work: “Music as a force of truth, independence, diversity, and love.”
