The Documentary Film Institute presents the sixth iteration of the Pluralities Project, an interactive series exploring the archives, stories, and experiences that shape our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. The closing-night program features a screening of The Negro Artist, a collaborative work presented by filmmaker Nik Heftman and poet Caleb Rainey, followed by a live awards presentation.
The evening will include the Accomplice Awards, recognizing artists, activists, and cultural figures who take risks to bring critical issues to light. This year’s honorees include Belva Davis, a pioneering African American journalist who broke barriers as the first Black woman hired as a journalist and news anchor on the West Coast, and her longtime producer and collaborator George Osterkamp. The program will also honor Greg Tate, the influential cultural critic, musician, and artist celebrated for his fearless commentary on African American culture and the diaspora.
Bringing together film, poetry, journalism, and cultural history, the event celebrates those who challenge dominant narratives, amplify underrepresented voices, and shape our collective understanding of the past and present. Join us for an evening honoring the artists and storytellers whose work continues to inspire meaningful cultural conversations.
