Earth Day is Sunday, April 22, but the events are starting this weekend! Here’s how to celebrate and give back with your family.

Saturday, April 14th

Palo Alto

Earth Day and the Great Race for Saving Water

9am-1pm

Palo Alto Baylands Athletic Center 

A 5K run/walk and kids 1K fun run plus Earth Day festival with electric vehicle (EV) ride & drive, live music, food trucks, bird walk, guided bike ride, zoo animals, arts & crafts, raffle prizes, Smokey the Bear, community booths with activities, environmental and public safety resources. Marine Science Institute Earth Day on the Bay

This FREE event boasts live music, environmental fair, touch-a-shark, workshops, photo booth, hands-on science booths, food and animal exploration. You don’t want to miss this jam-packed event at such a scenic location!

Atherton

Earth Day Screening and Reception

12:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Menlo-Atherton High School Performing Arts Center, 555 Middlefield Road, 94027

An educational event on current topics related to climate change and how technology may help to solve this crisis.  There will be screening a documentary film “The New Fire,” about the ways in which fourth generation nuclear energy technologies may help in fighting climate change. Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion with the filmmaker, David Schumacher, and a distinguished panel of speakers including Ken Caldeira from Stanford, Ross Koningstein from Google, and others. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Half Moon Bay/ Pacifica

Earth Day of Action 2018

9am-2:30pm

Clean up spots along the coast from 9-11am; the EcoFest starts at 11am at Linda Mar State Beach

Pacifica Beach Coalition is organizing one of the largest eco-friendly events in California, leading beach and neighborhood cleanups from Daly City to Half Moon Bay from 9-11am and then hosting a large EcoFest at Linda Mar State Beach with food, fun, music, eco-booths, hands-on kids activities, environmental speakers

Alum Rock Park Earth Day

9am-1pm (Volunteers), 1-4pm open to all

Alum Rock Park, 15350 Penitencia Creek Road San Jose 95127

Come join the fun with the Alum Rock Park Rangers and the Youth Science Institute for an Earth Day celebration. Volunteers start at 9:00 am giving back to Earth and Alum Rock Park with different volunteer projects. All are welcome to enjoy Earth Day festivities with the Youth Science Institute and Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, learn about local pollinators, sustainable gardening, see live animals, and offset our carbon footprint by planting native seeds and a ceremonial tree at the end of the event.

Meredith is a transplant to the Bay Area and has fallen in love with the weather, gorgeous scenery, and plethora of local wineries. A wife and mother of two, she works part-time as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. She hails from Texas, where she attended the University of Texas and will always bleed orange.
