When you say Disney, especially when you say Disney on Ice, you know you’re in for a special night. As always, Disney has the magic to make your evening, well, magical!

I chose to tell my son we were going to see Disney On Ice Celebrates 100 Years of Magic a few hours before we left for the show, and my friend told her daughter a few days before. Her daughter was much more excited than my little guy leading up to the show, but once it began, they both enjoyed themselves immensely.

We took public transportation over to the Oakland Oracle Arena, which was a great way to not have to sit in traffic or deal with a crowded parking lot. Our travel time went quickly as my friend and I discussed our little ones’ favorite Disney characters. Both have an affinity to Moana, and my friend’s daughter also likes Anna and Elsa. My son has never watched Frozen, but even without knowing those characters, he was captivated when he saw them on the ice during the show. In fact, I don’t think he took his eyes off the ice once… well except for when the lights went on to leave.

So what made this Disney on Ice better than the last?  The fact that they brought back the old school characters. Besides the Fab Four: Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald Duck, most of the princesses made an appearance, too. Plus, the Toy Story characters, Finding Nemo fishy friends, and even Lion King showed their talents. It was a little throwback for me to when I was a kid watching Lion King, Cinderella, etc.

If there was a character I wish had made an appearance on the ice, it was Moana, but I later found out she that will be coming to the ice in February/March of 2019. Make sure to grab your coupon on your way out the door for a discount to see Moana next year.

I can’t say I watched the entire show, as a good portion of my time was spent looking at my son’s face as he watched the show.  He made his usual stoic face while watching the show, but somehow found a way to give me a kiss (his way of thanking me), while never taking his eyes off the show.  My friend’s daughter’s face was smiles and excitement all the way through. They both waved and clapped with the rest of the crowd, and once the show was over, my son gave me his stamp of approval. When I asked him if he enjoyed the show, and he finally smiled.

One interesting thing I noticed while attending Disney On Ice was this: at intermission, a couple got up to use the bathroom and grab drinks, and I realized they didn’t have kids in tow. It didn’t even cross my mind that this was not just for children. Cue the Moana song You Remind Me. Disney is NOT just for little kids; it is for ALL ages! I mean, I always think I attend this for my son, but, in reality, my friend and I really enjoyed the show, as well!  So, with that said, I’ll leave the choice to you. Go with or without your kids, no judgment here. Whichever route you take, you will be sure to enjoy yourselves.
