Halloween Cake Pop Treats

1

Most of you know, I love to bake! And I will use any excuse to bake- parties, holidays, rain outside. We even hosted a baking play date for my son, dress up clothes and all.  These little bakers actually made the cake pops for this post!

Have you ever made cake pops? I absolutely love making these without the sticks.  Below are a few Halloween examples that are easy to do with or without the kiddos!

First, you really should purchase a cake pop maker.  Making a cake, crumbling it, and rolling it into balls sounds horrible, and it is! With the cake pop maker, you make the cake mix (by scratch or boxed), pour the mix into the circles just like a waffle maker, and close.  It takes 4 mins, yes, 4 mins!  Beware, these cake pop makers get hot, so let your little one help with mixing and stirring, but don’t let them around the cake pop maker.

Once your cake pops are made, cool them before frosting! You can even store them in a zip-lock bag for a day or so before frosting.

Pumpkin Cakes

Ingredients:

Cake pops

Vanilla frosting, orange dye

Green licorice candies- I used Rips Rainbow!

First make the cake pops!  Then microwave a bowl-full of vanilla frosting for 10 seconds.  Add the orange dye, and mix.  Microwave an additional 7-10 seconds, so the frosting is a liquid.

Drop the cake pop in the bowl and spoon over the frosting.  Carefully remove the cake pop from the frosting using the tool that comes with most makers or you can make your own with a plastic fork (break off the two middle prongs).  Lay them on wax paper and transfer into refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

Once hardened slightly, using a cake pop stick or straw, make a little hole at the top of the pumpkin.  Gently press the green candies in place.  (I peeled out the green licorice sticks, and then cut them in half for a pumpkin stem).

You can serve the pumpkins on a plate or place into a mini cupcake liner for a fancier look!

Bats and Spiders

Ingredients:

Cake pops

Chocolate frosting

Pretzel sticks

Oreos

Bubble Gum Bites, I used Wilton’s Sprinkles

First make the cake pops!  Then microwave a bowl-full of chocolate frosting for 10 seconds.  Stir and microwave an additional 7-10 seconds, so the frosting is a liquid.

Just like the pumpkins- Drop the cake pop in the bowl and spoon over the frosting.  Carefully remove the cake pop from the frosting using the tool that comes with most makers or you can make your own with a plastic fork (break off the two middle prongs).  Lay them on wax paper and transfer into refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

For spiders, carefully push in pretzel sticks as legs. It’s best to push two opposing pretzels diagonally into the cake pop at the same time. For example, the top left leg with the bottom right leg. This gives more stability. Don’t press to hard or the cake pop will break open.

Then add yellow gum eyes!

For the bats, open an Oreo and scoop off the vanilla frosting.  Break a cookie in half and gently press cookie wings into cake pop at the same time. Do not press in too far, or the cake pop will break open.

Then add red gum eyes!

We placed our Halloween treats on paper plates and delivered them to our neighbors!!
