St. Patrick’s Day Rice Krispies Treats Recipe

My three-year-old daughter loves to help me cook. Every night she requests to help prep the vegetables for dinner, and I recently got her a set of children’s knives, which have been a huge hit!  That being said, there is a lot of worry and hovering about sharp knives, hot ovens, stoves, etc., so in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, we tried a (relatively) easy and classic treat.

St. Patrick’s Day Rice Krispies Treats!

One extra awesome thing about these is they don’t contain any nuts or eggs, so if you’re making them for a playdate, you don’t have to worry about those allergies.

Ingredients

(makes a single batch)

6 cups Kellog’s® Rice Krispies® Cereal

10 oz bag marshmallows

3 tbsp butter

1 bag green chocolate candy melts

1 or more kinds of green sprinkles

Shamrock cookie cutter

Cooking spray (to grease the cookie cutter)

Directions

Make Rice Krispie treats per directions on box (I did a double batch).

After letting them cool and harden on a baking sheet, we melted festive green chocolates and I let her drizzle the chocolate.  The candy melts are incredibly easy and come in over a dozen colors for any occasion.  She went to town with covering the Krispies. It ended up less drizzle and more total coverage.

After the chocolate, we used two types of green sprinkles and then let everything cool and harden again. She adored being in charge of decorating and I loved the easy clean-up.

Finally, I took a four-leaf clover cookie cutter and went to town cutting them out.  Just don’t forget to use cooking spray or you’ll never get the treats out of the cookie cutter!

Super easy and she was able to be involved in just about every step.  Even my 18-month-old got in on the stirring! Enjoy!
