Hey, Busy Moms, Meet Your New Fairy Godmother!

Not long ago, I found myself admonishing my kids for dumping out a giant container of blocks, immediately growing bored and walking away to wreak havoc somewhere else. “There isn’t some cleaning fairy who’s going to magically appear and take care of this!” I scolded, probably sounding to them like the adults in the Peanuts cartoons  (“Wah, wah, wah!”).

Well, as it turns out, I was wrong.

Say hello to Fairy, a San Francisco-based service that pairs with experienced, background-checked professional housekeepers to offer 30-minute, hotel-style cleanings 2, 3 or 5 days a week. Think of it as short bursts of intense cleaning activity that can be tailored to your daily needs—maybe scrubbing floors on Monday and folding mountains of laundry on Wednesday. Fairy currently serves residential building complexes (apartments and condos) in San Francisco, and recently expanded into New York City.

San Francisco Moms Blog got the scoop from Fairy’s business development and growth consultant, Venessa Johnson, on just how the magic happens. (She even offered our readers a special discount!)

SFMB: How did Fairy come about? What did you feel was missing from the existing marketplace of housekeeping services?

Venessa Johnson: Fairy started a little over a year ago.  Our founders, both busy professionals, thought it would be great to have someone keep their places clean and tidy multiple times a week as if they were staying at a hotel, instead of the traditional housekeeping model where someone comes once a week or a few times a month.  This way, much like at a hotel, when you leave for the day you come back to a nice, clean and tidy home, whereas when you have a housekeeper only once a week or a few times a month, you still have to deal with daily upkeep.

SFMB: Have you noticed any interesting trends when it comes to customers’ preferences and the services they’re requesting?

VJ: We’ve had a lot of requests for people wanting 2-day-a-week plans, so we just started offering those, and also people have been requesting 1-hour plans, so we are offering those now, too.  We are looking into solidifying a dry cleaning and laundry partner, as this is a service a lot of people would love to have done. Unfortunately, we can’t start and finish laundry in 30 or 60 minutes, and many people don’t have washers and dryers at their homes, so we are looking into how we can help fulfill this need.  We do, however, fold clothes, so that’s nice!

SFMB: Everyone wants a clean home, but why should moms choose Fairy over the competition?

VJ: We think Fairy is super appealing to moms! It’s basically that bit of extra help that all moms can use so that they have more time to do what they want: spend time with their family. We think having someone come in daily to help pick up, tidy and clean is a great service that can help lift a mom’s burden and make life a bit easier and more enjoyable.

SFMB: Do you hope to expand elsewhere in the Bay Area, and to other types of homes in SF?

VJ: Definitely! Our mission is to “Deliver Happiness to Every Single Home.” So, we are always looking to expand. We are currently available in SF and NYC, and hopefully reaching more cities soon.

SFMB: Well, this sounds almost too good to be true! But about that discount…

VJ: Yes! We are offering $25 off the first month of service with the code: MOMLOVE.

Okay, Cinderella, get yourself to that ball! Fairy’s got you covered at home.
