I had the opportunity to test out Qeepsake, an app that uses text messages to help you create a baby book for your kids, and I wish I knew about this when I was pregnant. Basically, this is a journal that’s recorded digitally, and then can be printed out as a physical book.
When I was pregnant, I remember thinking that it was odd that no one bought a baby book for my baby shower. I thought for sure that would be something someone would want to get a first-time mom. Although I’d heard that some parents never got around to filling out baby books for their kids, I told myself I was different.
I spent lots of time looking for the baby book that I felt was the most fitting for me. I told myself I would be different than those other moms and would fill out the big milestone dates and place the appropriate photos in their cutely designed layouts. I did a pretty good job of keeping up on the baby book when my son was crawling, but, still, I never wrote down the exact date he crawled, walked, or said “Mama,” and a list of all the photos I want to use for his book sits waiting to be printed.
Ever since my baby has been mobile, my son’s baby book sits on the shelf, doing what books do best when you become a parent, collecting dust.
If I had to do it all over again, I would ask for a gift from Qeepsake, and here’s why: I have my phone with me almost all day. All I have to do is text any photo, milestone, or note that I would like to remember, and it gets recorded. How awesome is that?
Never will I miss an important or memorable moment again. Once I am ready, I can print out a book with all my entries. Done! With minimal effort, I have an awesome baby book for my little one.
Another great feature of the Qeepsake program is that you can have questions sent to you daily via text, so you don’t forget to contribute photos and memories. Some of the questions didn’t match where my son was developmentally, but most of them were fun. One of my favorite questions was, “What do you think Eli will be when he grows up?” Since my son is only a year old, I found that question to be really fun for my husband and I. How cool will it be for my son to look back in 20 to 30 years and read that?
Qeepsake is also capable of having entries for more than one child, so you don’t have to feel guilty if you made a baby book for your first but haven’t had the time to do it for your younger kids. Since it grows with your child, even if you’ve missed the baby years, you can keep track of their lives and photos via Qeepsake by using it as a journal. Plus, it’s an easy and memorable gift for any new parent!
As of now, I wasn’t able to see and edit the baby book before it’s printed, but Qeepsake said that this may be an option in the future. Even so, I would still choose Qeepsake, and, if I ever have another baby, this is the way I will go. It is just so much easier to keep track of everything you want to remember, without the stress. Everything is at your fingertips.
