We asked our contributors to share one of their child’s all-time favorite toys to help you build a holiday gift list that will be a hit. After all, toys are expensive, and if we’re buying them, we want to find something that kids will enjoy playing with for a long time. Our contributors’ children range in age from infants to school-aged children, so stay tuned, as we add more suggestions to our Favorite Toys Round Up. In the meantime, you can also check out our Holiday Gift Guide and our list of 50 Timeless Toys for Toddlers and Preschoolers.
My 3-year-old son loves trains! The Brio train set is a classic and never gets old! It’s a great gift because the set can grow endlessly (much to my disappointment sometimes. haha!). Like I said, the train set can grow endlessly, so when we have a lot of time (and the playroom floor is clean), we can build for hours. I think it helps teach shapes and spatial awareness too because my son quickly learned what pieces fit together, which can fit around a curve, or how tall he has to make the bridge to allow a train to still fit under. Grandparents love it because they are always able to find new sets as holiday or birthday gifts. I truly think he will be playing with this for years to come!
