This post is in partnership with MVCode.
I refrained from signing my first grader up for a lot of after school activities in advance of the school year because I knew she’d inevitably change her mind about what she wanted to do once she found out what all of her friends were doing.
The risk with this approach is that some smaller programs are already full by the start of the school year. Fortunately, MVCode offers so many classes each week that it still has some openings available. Even better, my daughter can try a class for free before we commit. If you’re like me and are considering adding on or swapping out one of your child’s afterschool activities, consider MVCode.
Why MVCode?
Software is reinventing the world, and kids will need different skills than we did to prepare them for the future. MVCode teaches kids to code through Minecraft, Gaming, Web, Robotics, Digital Design, YouTube and more. Through their afterschool programs, school year camps, and summer camps, children learn more than coding. Coding becomes an avenue for children to work in teams, benefit from social time, gain confidence in using technology, learn math and science concepts in a fun way, and be creative. We’ve previously shared one mom’s testimonial about the positive benefits MVCode brought to her son.
MVCode has several locations throughout the Bay Area offering classes for students in Grades 1–10. In San Francisco, MVCode is now located on Geary between 14th and 15th Avenues (it moved locations about a year ago). You’ll also find clubhouses in Mill Valley, Kentfield, San Mateo, Redwood City, and Mountain View.
MVCode@School
Besides bringing your child to MVCode clubhouses for classes, MVCode can come to your child’s school through its MVCode@School programs. They can provide 8 and 10-week after-school programs for students in grades K–8. During the school day, MVCode can provide customized coding programs to integrate into the school curriculum. They’ve also recently launched a portal for schools and teachers who wish to use MVCode in their own classrooms.
MVCode was voted a Bay Area Parent Family Favorite in 2019 because of its engaging curriculum and the variety of ways they are reaching out to children. If you think your child might be interested in attending a class, sign up for a free trial. Maybe we’ll see you there!
