Three Feel Good Fall Looks for Pregnancy and How to Create Them at Home

Pregnancy. There is no other time in your fashion life when you want to have a feel-good style. Between the morning (aka all day) sickness, your growing body, and sleeplessness, a pregnant woman needs a mental lift in her day more than anyone. My favorite way to bring those spirits up is to wear beautiful pieces that feel cozy against my skin.

Fall in San Francisco is a wonderful time to be pregnant. Both of my kids were born in early November and I relished the sunny fall weather. The following are some great outfits that can take you from doctor’s appointments to dinner with enough layering to keep you warm when the fog rolls in.

Inspo Outfit #1

fall maternity looks

This outfit is great for pregnancy because it’s comfortable and stylish. The dress has a sweet, feminine vibe and the statement moto jacket adds just the right amount of edge. For the dress, you could show off that beautiful bump and go fitted, like in this Pink Blush Long Sleeve Fitted Maternity Dress in burgundy.

If you are more comfortable with a relaxed silhouette, this heather gray sleeveless high neck maternity swing dress is the perfect choice. This is a great dress for the first trimester when you may feel bloated but not be quite ready to share the big news.

For the jacket, I recommend buying a non-maternity jacket in your usual size and wearing it open. This look shows off the bump and gives you a cool jacket to look forward to wearing during and after pregnancy! My favorites are this BlankNYC corduroy moto jacket with edgy gunmetal hardware and this vintage look moto jacket with faux shearling lining to keep you cozy and looking like a rockstar all autumn long.

Inspo Outfit #2

This outfit is perfect for choosing the perfect pumpkin at the pumpkin patch! It all starts with a great pair of maternity jeans. After trying so many brands of maternity jeans over my two pregnancies, I finally settled on these Old Navy Maternity Side Panel Rockstar jeansThese $45 jeans sit under the belly and have just the right amount of stretch while still maintaining their shape.

A great tee shirt is another absolute staple of any maternity wardrobe. I recommend this Michael Stars shine ¾ sleeve double v neck because of the special details. The fabric has a slight but sophisticated sheen and the double v neck adds visual interest leading up to your face. It comes in 7 colors for all of your changing moods.

A super cozy cardigan will be like wearing a blanket outside. They are like “comfort clothing,” similar to comfort food, and will make you want to sip hot apple cider while decorating your living room for the holidays. I like this Gap longline fringe hooded (!) cardigan sweater. The textural knit detailing and fringe at the hem will have you pulling for this sweater day after day.

Accessories are so essential when you are pregnant because they help you add personality and charm to simple outfits. My favorite part of this outfit is the wide brim gray wool hat. Hats also draw interest to your (glowing) face! Try this Pikes Peak Rancher hat by Anthropologie to top off your look. This cotton hat comes in three colors, though I’m in love with the classic black!

Many pregnant women are afraid to layer clothing for fear of looking bigger than they are. Quite to the contrary, layers can create a proportional silhouette that complements your new fabulous curves! I love how the sweater in this photo is form fitting with buttons creating a vertical line to lengthen the body.

This look starts with a classic black pair of maternity leggings. These $60 pull on leggings from Nest Maternity can be dressed up or down and have a seam down the front and belt loops.

When layering on the top start with a light and comfortable tank top or t-shirt. I am a fan of these H&M Mama Jersey tank tops. These tanks come in packs of two and are bra friendly, an amazing feature for pregnancy!

When choosing a sweater for layering you want a fine knit, semi-form fitting look. This Happy Mama faux cowl neck sweater has a removable tie belt to create that vertical line in the photo above.

The final piece to create this look is a beautiful wool coat. This wool button front detail tie jacket from Motherhood Maternity fits the bill with its unique plaid design.

I hope these outfits and products provide you with some great inspiration for your maternity wardrobe. You are an amazing mama and you deserve to look and feel fabulous during this special time! Rock on, city mama.
