FUN Things to Do in April!

    Looking for something to do with the kids this month? Get them out of the house and over to some of these fun events happening around the city. For Easter-specific events, check out our list of Easter egg hunts and more around San Francisco and on the Peninsula. 

     

    April 1st

    Touch-A-Truck Event, Presidio Civil War Lawn: Your kids will love climbing on real trucks and construction equipment at this fundraiser put on by the Junior League of San Francisco. 11:00 AM- 3:00 PM. Tickets for purchase.

    April 5th

    JCCSF Multicultural Passover Freedom Seder, 3200 California Street:  Celebrate our own “promised land” – San Francisco. Break matzah with fellow San Franciscans and share your story of living as a free, unique individual who contributes to the diversity of this vibrant city. 6:30 PM. Purchase tickets online. 

    Free Day at the San Francisco Zoo: Bring a valid ID to prove you’re a San Francisco resident, and enjoy free admission to the zoo from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Free.

    April 7

    West Portal Sidewalk Fine Arts & Crafts Fair, West Portal Ave: Local residents and tourists alike flock to admire the works of more than 40 artists displaying everything from photography, paintings, ceramics, jewelry and much more. Between 15th and Ulloa St, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Free.

    Cherry Blossom Festival, Japantown: A free family event to celebrate Japanese culture on Post Street between Laguna and Fillmore Streets. The Grand Parade takes place on April 16th beginning at the Civic Center up Polk Street to Post Street. 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Free.

    West Portal Sidewalk Fine Arts & Crafts Fair, West Portal Ave: Local residents and tourists alike flock to admire the works of more than 40 artists displaying everything from photography, paintings, ceramics, jewelry and much more. Between 15th and Ulloa St, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Free.

    April 9th 

    Sunday Streets, Bayview/ Dogpatch, 3rd St corridor:  Enjoy car-free fun in the Bayview and Dogpatch neighborhoods from 22nd Street to Donner Avenue on 3rd Street, with fun, free activities for the whole family to enjoy all along the way. Activity Hubs will be located on 22nd Street, Cargo Way, Oakdale, and Bancroft Streets. 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Free.

    Polk Street Spring Wine Walk, Polk Street from Sutter to Filbert St: Stroll along Polk St and pop into participating merchants to sample wine samples and special treats. 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Tickets purchased online or “day of” at 1475 Polk St.

    Goat Festival (aka Goatchella), Ferry Building: Kids will love the petting zoo and craft stations. Adults will love sampling artisan cheeses, the cooking demo and farmer’s market scavenger hunt . 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Petting zoo open from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Free.

    Free National Park Day, Maritime National Historic Park and Muir Woods:  Enjoy no entrance fee to these parks, but plan for larger than usual crowds.

    Bring Your Own Big Wheel Race:  In Potrero Hill at 20th and Vermont Streets, for older kids and kids at heart. Ride your Big Wheel down the curviest street in San Francisco (curvier than Lombard!). The first heat is for children 12 and under. 3:00 PM. Free.

    April 22

    Earth Day SF Festival, Civic Center:  The festival will feature top notch entertainment, dynamic panel discussions, and speakers at the ‘Eco Teach In’ section, organic celebrity chef showcase, organic and vegan food courts, wine and beer gardens, clean energy zone,cutting edge earth friendly products, an electric vehicle showcase, kids zone and much more. 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Donations welcome.

    April 23

    Opening Day on the Bay, Chrissy Field to Pier 39: The decorated boat parade celebrates the official beginning of the 2017 boating season on San Francisco Bay. Free to watch from shore or purchase tickets for a lunch cruise.

    April 26

    Mandaue Children’s Choir Performance, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1755 Clay St: This internationally acclaimed choir from Cebu, Philippines brings a delightful evening of Filipino culture, sound and family-friendly entertainment. All proceeds will support the choir’s US Tour. 7:00-9:00 PM. Doors open at 6:30PM. Adults, $18, Children $14, or Family package (2 adults, 2 children), $50.

    April 30

    Sunday Streets, Tenderloin, Golden Gate Ave: Come and explore the historic Tenderloin District! Enjoy car-free fun in the heart of the Tenderloin, with fun, free activities for the whole family to enjoy all along the way. Activity Hubs will be located on Ellis and Golden Gate Ave. Free.

    Glen Park Festival, Diamond Street: This neighborhood tradition boasts live music, great food and raffle prizes, all in the name of raising money for local children’s programs. 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Donations welcome.

    Every Sunday

    Off the Grid – Presidio Picnic, Main Parade Ground:  Bring your picnic blanket and hang out. With so many delicious food trucks to choose from, you’ll want to spend time sampling them all. 11:00 PM -4:00 PM

    Every Friday 

    Off the Grid – Fort Mason, 2 Marina Blvd: Come for an early dinner with the kids. They’ll love the music and lively setting. You’ll love the good food and drinks. 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM
